HCA Kids Walked Until the Cows Came Home!

Elementary students at Highlands Christian Academy participated in a Walk-a-Thon on April 8, 2010, raising $8,500 in sponsorships for a new elementary building entrance.

K5 through fifth grade students who participated said they really enjoyed the event. While the students walked laps around the gym, Coach Josh Good and Mrs. Jennifer Utz “deejayed,” playing music and prompting students to clap and sing along. The students also had fun walking in reverse, finding a friend to walk with, walking in trios, and walking in slow motion. They also enjoyed a surprise visit from the Chick-fil-A cows, who gave out lots of hugs and high-fives to the younger children and came back “home” at the end of the event to take pictures with the third through fifth grade students.

The basketball scoreboard kept track of how long the students had walked, and a buzzer was regularly sounded to indicate special activities. Sometimes students who were directly in front of a teacher along the walking path were rewarded with a prize, and sometimes students were selected for a skills game on center court.

Highlands’ goal for the Walk-a-Thon was to raise $12,000 for the Elementary Entrance Building Fund. The Fund already contained $16,000 from this year’s magazine sale and a portion of the ’09 Knight Fund.  The new entrances will be enclosed to protect students from inclement weather and provide additional safety for our students. Please pray that the additional funds will be provided so work can begin on this project.

Suspend Principal Utz: Ninety-three pieces of tape have been earned by students who raised at least $60. Is this enough to “suspend” Principal Utz to the wall? We shall soon see!
